MIC 2024 Re-cap

The Military Influencer’s Conference popped off in Atlanta from 30 Sep-3 Oct. At this conference, mission-driven thought leaders and advocates came together to participate and collaborate on projects and ideas supporting the military community. The theme this year surrounded five key words:

·      Inspiration

·      Innovation

·      Influence

·      Inclusivity

·      Impact

Veterans, military spouses, and military supporters convened with studs like Jon Stewart, Chief JoAnne Bass (USAF, ret.), and Jack Carr (yes, I saw all three, although Jon Stewart zoom’d in!). MIC is simply a space to network, dream, and grow in your work for our military community.

That may sound quite lofty for a four-day venture, but truly it is not an exaggeration. Dozens of organizations were present that strive to deliver needed change to our community. Here are three that I found interesting: First, Michael “Rod” Rodriguez is working hard to bring us the GWOT Memorial. His team’s work will create a space to reflect and honor this time in history.

Female veterans can make HERstory by registering their service information at the Military Women’s Memorial website. Pay a visit in person next time you are in D.C. (it’s the only memorial with heating AND a/c!). MWM was highlighted during a sponsored breakfast honoring military-connected women.

Finally, Operation Child Care Project (OCCP) caught my attention as an organization working to alleviate the burden of the childcare crisis as it specifically impacts military families. MBRNPC partnered with OCCP by supporting a pumping station at their booth. Also, while I stopped by their booth, I got to meet IRL fellow MBRNPC board member Sam Sliney (we are pictured together above).

There is not enough room to highlight all of the great work, amazing organizations, or impactful messages at MIC. If you missed it, maybe you can feel a glimpse of the power this conference can have the next time you are reflecting on your personal mission. Take some time this week to focus on your inspiration, innovation, influence, inclusivity, and impact. Be it a journal entry or bar napkin-weaving those words into the work you do can help you re-focus and re-ignite your mission. See you at MIC ’25!
