social media policy
Social media posts shall be done by chapter leaders and MBRNPC social media member. The goal of MBRNPC is to connect families with resources in the military and civilian communities, develop resource that are needed, and provide information that is pertinent to military families particularly during pregnancy, labor and birth, postpartum, infant feeding, and parenting.
Resources for birth and family support are often lacking for military families as they are stationed around the world and MBRNPC’s mission is to provide these resources.
Always keep OPSEC at the forefront of any posts. Do not share specific information about the service members deployments, where they are located or when they are returning home or about their family.
OPSEC definition – Operations security (OPSEC) is a term originating in the military that identifies critical information to determine if friendly actions can be observed by enemy intelligence, determines if information obtained by adversaries could be interpreted to be useful to them, and then executes selected measures that eliminate or reduce adversary exploitation of friendly information.
1.Suggested Information to post
Share base events such as new parent support groups, parenting classes, and support groups
Share organizations events that align with MBRNPC’s mission or provide a resource to military families. For example our partners and other military affiliated non profits
Share upcoming special events for your personal business. As a member of the network you can share special events, classes, etc., but the MBRNPC Facebook page is not a personal business page. Share articles that are pertinent to support services such as birth and postpartum doula services with a link to your website for additional information. Know your community and recommend the best resources in your community to parents.
Share evidence based articles and encourage parents to research information pertinent to their needs.
Share updates from the main MBRNPC page from events you attended or hosted. Share pictures from these events but remember to get permission to post from the persons in the pictures.
Share fun interactive posts.
Keep in mind that you cannot control information once it is shared!
2. Suggestions NOT to share
Do not share large numbers of events or groups outside the military. Some duty stations may or may not have several off-base options. MBRNPC would like to encourage off base businesses to join MBRNPC if their business supports the military. Be discrete about what is shared, not all businesses have good intentions or a good reputation. Please seek assistance from MBRNPC’s board if someone in the community is strongly encouraging you to publish information and you are not comfortable with the information.
Unfortunately, there will be loss in the military community. Please do not post anything until it is publicly released by the appropriate military sources and after family notification has occurred. We want to show our support but also respect the family’s privacy.
Do not share fundraising events outside MBRNPC unless you are running or collaborating with the event.
Do not share any information regarding political, controversial, or hot topics. We respect everyone’s beliefs, backgrounds, culture, and differences of opinion. We understand that you may be passionate about certain causes but please leave those things off social media.
Do not share names of specific providers, facilities, clients, staff, or birth stories unless it has been shared by the client in a blog or other social media. HIPPA violations can be very costly.
When in doubt, don’t post it! Take 30 second to think before putting anything on social media and if you have any question, do not post it!
